Like other manufacturers, Mahindra, too, had been assigned the job to update all of its vehicles to meet the BS-VI emission standards. However, that was a while ago, and now all the cars Mahindra sell in the Indian market are already compliant with the stringent emission standards.

But the manufacturer is now looking to thoroughly update most of its cars since the models like the XUV500 and Scorpio seem a bit too long in the teeth now. Therefore, it will most likely spend the next year – or the upcoming months – in updating most of its line-up. Moreover, with the launch of the Thar, the manufacturer has gained quite the sales momentum and is sure to get the same results with the other upcoming models.

So, it will be debuting some new models and other facelift updates in the next few months or so. While the manufacturer’s erstwhile line-up mostly constituted of diesel-engined models, this time around, it will also bring fit its new range of turbo petrol engines with gasoline direct injection – which should deliver more than adequate grunt for daily duties and should be powerful enough to please the petrolheads – in the newer models. So, here’s what we know about the upcoming Mahindra models in 2020-21.

1.    Mahindra New Scorpio

As said above, the Scorpio is an old model now and its sales numbers make it quite evident. The new Scorpio is expected to be built around an updated ladder-on-frame chassis, which currently underpins the next-gen Mahindra Thar. It is also expected to gain tremendous response in the Indian market as we’ve already witnessed in the case of the Thar. Under the hood here, too, will be the same 2.0-litre BS-VI compliant 2.0-litre engine – the 2.0-litre petrol engine might also be there too – developing 170bhp and 400Nm of torque. Expect Mahindra cars to drop the new Scorpio by the end of this year.

2.    Mahindra New XUV500

This has been the most awaited Mahindra model of late. Previously, the Mahindra XUV500 established itself as a terrific contender in the mid-size SUV space. However, with the debut of the MG Hector and Tata Harrier – not to forget the smaller Kia Seltos – last year, things have not been in the favour of the Mahindra SUV. Nevertheless, Mahindra is expected to give the XUV500 a generational upgrade so that it easily gains its numero uno spot back in the segment. It, too, is expected to be powered by the same engines as the Scorpio above. Expect it to arrive in the first quarter of 2021.

3.    Mahindra TUV300 Plus Facelift

The TUV300, despite its bare-bones equipment list, has sold well in the Indian market. However, as soon as the BS-VI emission standards were enforced in the country, both the TUV300 and its larger sibling, the TUV300 Plus were discontinued from the Indian market. There have been rumours flying around that the maker is expected to bring both the cars back in our market with a BS-VI compliant engine. Like the upcoming Scorpio and XUV500, there’s a good chance this time the TUV300 models might also get a petrol engine. We expect Mahindra to launch both the TUV300 and TUV300 with a facelift update and newer engines around the middle of next year.

4.    Mahindra eXUV300

The Mahindra eXUV300, as its name suggests, is the fully-electric version of the standard combustion-engined XUV300, which we’ve thoroughly tested last year and loved it for its inherent capabilities. Mahindra is all set to expand its green credentials with the eXUV300. It had showcased the same at the Auto Expo earlier this year. The design of the eXUV300 will be almost identical to the standard model, albeit with a few distinguishing factors like blue inserts all over the place. We expect this one to arrive by the end of next year.

5.    Mahindra eKUV100

Alongside the eXUV300, the automaker also showcased the eKUV100 at the Auto Expo earlier this year. However, unlike the bigger electric derivative of the XUV300, the eKUV100 is expected to arrive by the first quarter of 2021.
